Ampang is one of the main townships of Kuala Lumpur which has seen plenty of changes over the years. As large as it is, the district of Ampang is divided into two sections and belong to different jurisdictions; of which the section which falls under the territory of Selangor is also known as Ampang Jaya while the section that falls under the territory of Kuala Lumpur is simply known as Ampang.

The main road which runs through this township is Jalan Ampang which is also known as Ampang Road, and is one of the oldest roads in the Klang Valley accessible through Jalan Tun Razak. Although this road connects to several major highways, residents of Ampang still face daily traffic congestions due to the extremely high density of population in the city centre.
